Project Examples - Scenario Based Training
'The Great Camel Water
Challenge'
2007
Client: Medway Council
We have developed a half-day scenario game workshop to highlight
the value of water for developers, planners and all those
interested in water issues. This game challenges the
participants to ake a virtual camel on a 960km trek over 8 days
with 50 litres of water. Several teams have to help their
respective camel rider to reach the destination with water to
spare.
The 'game' was developed to highlight and discuss solutions in
respect of the acute water shortages in the South East of England
and the combined impact of multiple new developments.

'The Manora Story'
(Download the game)
2007
Client: University of Gent
We developed a two-day scenario game workshop to bring together
the results of 4 Interreg projects that involved heritage as a
driver for regeneration. These projects included Cultured
(Interreg IIIC), Inherit (Interreg IIIC), Qualicities (Interreg
IIIC) and Revit (Interreg IIIB). Manora - a fictional town -
contained all the ingredients and issues that the 4 Interreg
Project had to deal with.
The game required participants to form virtual consultancies and
bid for a new regeneration plan for the city of Manora. The
challenge was to integrate findings from each of the projects to
create a development brief for regeneration of the town.
Have a look and see if you could deliver a competitive bid!
'Speculate'
2007
Client: City of Stuttgart
We have developed a role-play game called
'Speculate', a training session challenging
conventions to Public Private Partnerships when working on
brownfield development sites.
This game can be 'played' over two days and is set up to engage
participants in a wide range of issues that they may have to deal
with in respect of developing Public Private Partnerships.
Cards are used to provide the teams with information on issues
ranging from finance, sustainability, planning law, environmental
protection, stakeholder engagement, risks and
marketing.

2007
Client: City of Stuttgart
At the final conference of a 4 year programme dealing with Brownfield Sites issues ERA21 Ltd. developed a 1 hour presentation in the form of a TV chat show involving partners from Germany, France, the Netherlands, England and Wales to present these findings in a more innovative way. This presentation dealt with the lessons learned from the project, focusing on Sustainable Development, Conservation and Promotion of Industrial Heritage, Public Private Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement. The development of this approach brought the partners together, gave them new presentation skills and made the event memorable.
'ABRON'
2009
Client: South Kerry Development Partnership
A two-day workshop based on developing new destination management concepts including sustainability, quality, sense of place and use of new technology. 'ABRON' - a fictional region - contained physical and cultural characteristics from each of the COLLABOR8 partners' regions. Participants worked in mixed groups (incorporating representatives from all these regions) on specific communities within ABRON, to create a Code of Practice for cluster working, a radio advert and magazine article to promote their area, and an induction programme for new project staff.
